It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Ruth Dyches Taylor on Wednesday, June 5, 2019. Ruth was born on September 29, 1927, and was 91 years young. She was the daughter of Mamie Rosier Dyches and John Harold (Brown) Dyches. Ruth was born and raised most of her life in Barnwell, SC. At one point the family moved to Ellenton. Here she graduated from Ellenton High School where she was one of eleven in the graduating class. Not long after graduation, she moved to Charleston to live with her Aunt Carrie. During that time she was introduced to Julian Taylor, a young World War II Navy sailor who was home on leave. It was love at first sight and seven months later, January 12, 1946, they were married. He always said he fell in love with her legs. A daughter, Joan, was born in December and after that they moved to Mt. Pleasant. Another year went by and son, Johnny was born. Ruth and Julian then decided they needed a bigger house. They bought a lot, drew up plans and built this home by themselves. Six years later the family grew again with twins this time. Donald and Ronald were born in 1958.
Ruth and Julian spent almost 69 years as husband and wife. They faced a lot of hardships but battled them together. They loved traveling, boating, fishing, socializing at the various organizations they belonged to and just being together.
Ruth worked as a cashier at Piggly Wiggly, clerk at SCE&G, homemaker and did the books for the family business, Taylor's Texaco Service Station. She was president of the PTA at her childrens' school, band mother, volunteer chaperone for her kids school activities and was always receptive when Joan would call home after a ball game to announce she was bringing a bunch of girls home with her to spend the night.
Ruth belonged to the Homemakers Club, Charleston Rifle Club Ladies Auxiliary where she had served on the board and participated on many committees, and the East Cooper Outboard Motor Club Ladies Auxiliary where she served as president, committee chair and she started the popular annual Spaghetti Supper held each month.
