Ruth Elizabeth Chandler Ripley, 96, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of John LaBree Ripley entered into eternal rest Sunday, October 10, 2021. Her Funeral Service will be held Sunday, October 17, 2021 in Bethel United Methodist Church, 57 Pitt Street at 2:00 p.m. Interment, Riverview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Saturday in J. Henry Stuhr Inc. Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Ruth was born November 22, 1924 in Lane, South Carolina, daughter of the late William Roslyn Chandler and Mary Harriet Small Chandler. She was one of 15 children, 10 of which lived to adulthood.
Ruth was an active member of Bethel United Methodist Church since 1944 serving on many church committees. She was President of United Methodist Women and an active member of the King's Daughters for many years. Ruth was a member of the Colonel Lewis Sunday School class, Chancel Guild and sang in the Cokesbury Choir at Bethel. She also served on the mission team at Redbird Kentucky for several years.
She is survived by her son, John L. Ripley, Jr. (Tina) of Charleston, SC; four grandchildren: Chandler Bryant, Thomas M. Bryant IV (Joanna), John L. "Rip" Ripley III (Corey) and Shaffer Ripley James (Justin); and eight great-grandchildren: Ava Bryant, Isabella Bryant, Elizabeth Dabit, Amirah Dabit, John L. "Jack" Ripley IV, Owens "Lolo" Ripley, Bennett "Beau" Ripley and Kacen "Ace" Ripley.
Ruth was predeceased by one daughter, Elizabeth Ripley Bryant.
