A true Christian, Ruth's life revolved around her beloved church. For many years, she served as kindergarten director at Pierpont Baptist Church in Charleston and as financial secretary at Citadel Square Baptist Church. Always active in religious activities, she was director of the Women's Missionary Union and Sunday school teacher to the Junior Department and Adult Class. One of the highlights of her many travels was visiting the Holy Land.
An avid reader, Ruth continually broadened her education by taking courses at area colleges. She took great delight in sewing and smocking clothes for her beloved grandchildren. After the age of 70, Ruth took up painting and found pleasure in working with oils and water colors. Her many pastimes included tending her garden, cooking, playing the piano, and spending time with family and friends. She especially loved entertaining her church groups at her home during Christmas and throughout the year.
