Ruth Burton Fitzhenry (Mrs. Oscar Charles Fitzhenry), 90, of Isle of Palms, SC, went to her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, December 3, 2013 with close family and faithful attendant, Laura Martin, in her final hours.
Ruth was born December 20, 1922 in Wachapreague, Virginia, to the late William Heber Burton and Juanita Bunting Burton. Schooled on the Eastern Shore, she married Oscar Charles Fitzhenry (Lt. Col., USAF Ret.) on February 17, 1945. Married for sixty eight years, Ruth supported her husband in his military service and together raised four children. They retired to Charleston, SC in 1961. Her strong Christian faith permeated everything she did and encouraged many friends and family into the knowledge and faith of the Lord Jesus Christ. Her Virginia blue eyes, beautiful smile and radiant countenance will long be remembered. Many are the recipients of her acts of kindness and prayers, as she was so sensitive to the needs of others.
A beloved Christian wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Ruth is survived by her husband, Oscar Charles Fitzhenry of Wild Dunes, SC; two sons, Charles Michael Fitzhenry and his wife, Dottie, of Summerville, SC and Mark Burton Fitzhenry and his wife, Wendy, of Charleston, SC; two daughters, Sharon Lee Fitzhenry of the Isle of Palms, SC and Linda Fitzhenry Campbell and her husband, Ron, of Seattle, WA; eleven grandchildren include Charles Michael Fitzhenry, II of Charleston, SC, Mary Margaret Fitzhenry Noland and her husband, Carter, of Atlanta, GA, Lauren Fitzhenry Zimmerman and her husband, Tate, of Wasilla, Alaska, Austin Mark Fitzhenry, Leslie Rebecca Fitzhenry, Shannon Michelle Fitzhenry, Katelyn Grace Fitzhenry, each of Charleston, SC. Also John Daniel Campbell of Seattle, WA, Luke Joseph Campbell and his wife, Alyson, of Seattle, WA, James David Campbell of Hermosa Beach, CA, and Renee Campbell Gardener and her husband, Jens, of Seal Beach, CA. She leaves four great grandsons, Tate, Miles, Matthew and Ian Zimmerman, and great granddaughter, Avery Campbell, several nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law, Josephine Fitzhenry Hodge of Kerrville, TX.
The family will receive visitors at 1:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at J. HENRY STUHR INC., NORTHWOODS CHAPEL, 2180 Greenridge Road, North Charleston. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park following the service.
