Ruth (Foster) Berlinsky of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of Daniel Berlinsky, entered into eternal rest, Monday, August 19, 2013. Mrs. Berlinsky was born in Birmingham, Alabama on August 24, 1931. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert L. Foster and Sara H. Kowitz; her aunt, Mary Ruth Holleman and grandson, Brian Scott Norton.
In addition to her husband, Daniel, she is survived by three daughters, Shelley Spitz (Jack) of Longwood, FL, Joanne Robin of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Phyllis Norton (David) of Madison, AL; her son, Philip Berlinsky (Shannon) of Mount Pleasant, SC; seven grandchildren, Cara Rivera (Sundance), Joshua Spitz (Rebecca), Benjamin Norton, Matthew Norton, Aaron Norton, Alexander Berlinsky and Brooks Berlinsky; two great grandchildren, Cayden Molnar and Adah Spitz; and two brothers, EL Foster Jr. (Jo) and Max Kowitz (Lisa).
Mrs. Berlinsky was an active community volunteer. She was a member of Synagogue Emanu-El. Among many volunteer positions, she held the office of President of Sisterhood and was the first female Vice President of the synagogue. She was active in many organizations, including Hadassah, Jewish Federation and the National Council of Jewish Women.
Mrs. Berlinsky loved traveling, gardening, and playing Bridge and Spite and Malice. She was happiest when surrounded by her family.
Her services will be held at the graveside in Emanu-El Cemetery, Maryville at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2013. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
