Russell William Taylor, 93, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of the late Ruth Marjorie Johnson Taylor died Sunday, February 14, 2016. His Funeral Service will be held Friday, February 19, 2016 in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be private.
Russell was born August 15, 1922 in Methuen, Massachusetts, son of the late William Taylor and the late Amy Ross Taylor. He was educated in the schools of Methuen and Lowell Technological Institute of Lowell, Massachusetts.
Mr. Taylor was a veteran of World War II and the recipient of the Purple Heart. He served in the 7th Army, 397 Regiment of the famous Century Division from 1942 to 1945 in the European theatre as Staff Sergeant.
After the war years, he was affiliated with the J.P. Stevens Company of North Andover, Massachusetts. He later transferred to the J.P. Stevens and Forstmann Companies of Dublin, Georgia. Mr. Taylor was in charge of all textile designing until his retirement in 1987.
While in Dublin, Mr. Taylor was a member of Pine Forest United Methodist Church. He served as Church School Superintendent, Church Treasurer, chairman of Administrative Board, Chairman of the Council on Ministries, Pastor/Parish Committee as well and several other church related committees.
Mr. Taylor was a member of the Exchange Club of Dublin, Georgia for thirty years serving as President, Treasurer, and Chaplain. Mr. Taylor was also a member of the DAV and the American Legion.
After retirement, Mr. Taylor moved to Charleston, SC area where he resided at The Elms of Charleston and most recently was residing at Somerby of Mt. Pleasant. Mr. Taylor was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church in Summerville, SC and most recently a member of the All Comers Class at the Isle of Palms United Methodist Church.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Janet Taylor Hall and Dr. Jeffrey Stuart Hall, of Isle of Palms, SC; a son, Jon Russell Taylor and daughter-in-law, Susan Taylor, of Point Pleasant, NJ. He has two granddaughters, Ashlyn Taylor Hall of Chicago, Illinois and Hayley Alexandra Hall, of Isle of Palms, SC. He is also survived by nephews, Bob and Gina Craig of Palm Springs, CA and David J. Craig of San Clemente, CA.
