Russell "Rusty" Johnsen Hughes, 66, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, died Tuesday, September 30, 2014. His Funeral Service will be held Thursday, October 2, 2014, in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, at 11:00 am. Interment in Beaufort National Cemetery at 2:00 pm. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 1, 2014, in Stuhr's Mount Pleasant Chapel from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m.

Rusty was born January 13, 1948 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late John Russell Hughes and Gertrude Elizabeth Johnsen Hughes. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of Vietnam and was the retired Superintendent of Boone Hall Plantation.

He is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline Carpenter of Dayton, OH; two granddaughters, Aisley Carpenter and Ava Carpenter, both of Dayton, OH; a brother, Daniel "Danny" Hughes and his wife, Pamela, of Daniel Island, SC; and a niece, Erin Burgess and her husband, Evan, of Mt. Pleasant, SC.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 604 Pitt Street, Mount Pleasant, SC 29464 or a charity of one's choice.
