Captain Russell Cline Mitchum, Sr., 86, passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2011. A private service will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at the cryptside, in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens at 3:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.
Captain Mitchum served our country proudly in the United States Navy during World War II. He was later a docking pilot for White Stack Towing, now known as Moran Towing Corporation. Captain Mitchum worked on the Charleston Harbor for 52 years, and he was known and considered as the "Old Pro" among his colleagues and peers. Included in his long list of accomplishments, Captain Mitchum was a devoted and loving father and husband for 60 years.
Captain Mitchum is survived by his wife, Joyce Wise Mitchum; his son, Russell Cline Mitchum, Jr.; his son, Francis Craig Mitchum and wife Ruby and his daughter, Denise Mitchum Meyer, all of Mount Pleasant, SC. He is also survived by his nine grandchildren, Nancy Faith Mitchum Stowe and husband William, Matthew James Pahno, Alexander Craig Mitchum, Ariel Denise Brown and husband Derek, Michael Luke Pahno, Rachel Adele Mitchum, Ashley Mitchum Razumich and husband Joshua, Halford Eye Meyer, III and Hayden Seabrook Meyer. He is also survived by his two great-grandchildren, William Landen Stowe and Leila Jayde Brown. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Mitchum Pahno; his grandson, Russell DeLeon Mitchum; his parents, Major Mitchum and wife Dolly; his aunt, Gertrude Campbell; his uncle, Lee Campbell and his 4 siblings, Francis Price Mitchum, Lt. Col. B. W. Mitchum, Faye Campbell Fraser and B. M. Mitchum.
