Rupert Alford Cottingham

October 19, 1926 — January 8, 2011

Entered into eternal rest on the morning of January 8, 2011, Rupert Alford Cottingham, husband of Annette Hay Cottingham.  Residence, Charleston, SC.  The family and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Rupert A. Cottingham are invited to attend the funeral services of the former in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at 11 a.m.  Interment, Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens.  Friends may call at Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel Wednesday one hour prior to the service hour.


Mr. Cottingham was born October 19, 1926 in Dillon, South Carolina, son of the late Rupert Sinclair Cottingham and the late Jessie Kate Alford Cottingham.  He attended secondary school in Dillon County, SC and was a graduate of the Presbyterian College.  Rupert was a retired foreman in the Shipping Department for McAlloys Steel and a member of Ashley River Baptist Church.  He served in the U.S. Army and married Annette on November 16, 1947.  He was devoted to his wife of 64 years.  He was an avid golfer, having played golf with many of his friends here in Charleston.  He loved flowers and working in his yard.


He is survived by his wife, Annette Cottingham.
