Ruby Kathryn Nelson, 90, of Charleston, South Carolina, first married to the late James Gay, Sr. and widow of James Meridia Nelson, entered into eternal rest Thursday, October 29, 2015. Her Funeral Service will be held Sunday, November 1, 2015, in J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, at 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday in Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Ruby was born March 11, 1925 in Jacksonville, Fl, daughter of the late Charles Rufus Head and Mary Higginbottom Head. She was a Credit Desk Manager with Sears Roebuck and Company. Ruby was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, W. James Gay of Egg Harbor Township, NJ; three daughters: Dianne Watson of CA, Charlotte Carol Powell of VA, and Mary Truitt of Goose Creek, SC; two step-sons, Woodrow Nelson of Charleston, SC, and James M. Nelson, II of St. Augustine, FL; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ruby is preceded in death by her daughter, Patricia Ann Williams.
