Ruby Lee (Brinson) Cruz, 90, of McClellanville, SC, passed away on Saturday, June 8, 2012 at her residence. The relatives and friends of Ruby Cruz are invited to attend her Funeral Service on Wednesday, June 13, 2012, in J. HENRY STUHR INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Mount Pleasant Chapel on Tuesday, June 12, from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.
Ruby was born on February 15, 1922, in Moncks Corner, SC, daughter of Issac and Mamie Brinson. She was retired from Detyens Shipyard where she worked for years in many capacities. With a love for woodworking, Ruby made many items for her family, including cribs her great grandchildren slept in. A self-sufficient woman in every sense of the word, Ruby did her own gardening, and she grew her own food, and sewing for her family. If she needed something done, she did it herself. Ruby also had a great love for her animals.
Ruby is survived by her son, Clarence Brown and his wife Sally of Minnesota; her daughters, Mildred Lee Ponce and her husband Manuel of Miami, Florida, and Myrtis Loren Thibodeau and her husband Gerald of McClellanville; her daughters-in-law, Brenda Brown and Shirley Brown; her brother Ernest Brinson; twenty-one grandchildren, Gary Brown, Laura Brown, Laurie Brown, Jason Brown, Margie Pinto, Edelia Ponce, Alex Ponce, Joseph Ponce, Luis Ponce, Jorge Ponce, Tony Ponce, Danny Ponce, Ruth Barr, Rachel Hodge, Brandi Thibodeau, Thomas Brown, Tina Brown, Patricia Brown, Harold Brown, Jr., Robert Brown and David Brown; twenty-nine great-grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren. A large extended family including many beloved nieces and nephews also survives Ruby. She was preceded in death by her sons, Jesse Brown and Harold Brown, and two grandchildren, Mark Thibodeau and Brenda Lee Brown.
