Ruben E. Herron entered into eternal rest on the evening of October 24, 2011, Ruben E. Herron, husband of Marie Duc Herron. Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Ruben E. Herron are invited to attend the funeral services of the former, Friday, October 28, 2011 at 11:00 am in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at Stuhr's Downtown Chapel, Thursday between 5:00 and 7:00 pm.
Ruben was born August 17, 1930 in Bamberg, SC, the son of Charles H. Herron and Nettie Sanders Herron. He was a graduate of Bamberg High School, attended the Citadel and served with the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard in Nuclear Design. After retirement, he continued to play music in "Ruben's Road Show". Ruben was the Past Exalted Ruler with the Charleston Elks Lodge #242 and was a member of The Charleston Rifle Club.
He is survived by his wife of Charleston, SC; Daughter: Tina H. Dudley (Joseph) of Charleston, SC; Son: Glenn E. Herron of Charleston, SC; four grandchildren: Jennifer, Heather, Tiffany and Alexandra; four great grandchildren: Dustin, Alexis, Caylie, Lillian; two brothers: Jack S. Herron of Savannah, GA and Reverend James W. Herron (Chelsea) of Rock Hill, SC; one sister: Sarah H. Cain (Carl) of Summerville, SC.
