Royal Earl Fischer Jr., 89, of Mt. Pleasant, SC died peacefully on March 13, 2025. He was born in Charleston to Royal Earl Fischer, Sr. and Alice Wilken Fischer. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in Civil Engineering. He married his Charleston High School sweetheart Mary Frances Porcher in December, 1957 and had four children. Earl served some time in the National Guard and worked for the Naval Facilities Engineering Command office in North Charleston for his entire career.
Earl loved to fish and often took his family on boat rides throughout the inland waterways. He would take his family to their small house on the end of Goat Island for day trips, weekends or week long vacations. His family spent many happy weekends swimming off the dock, eating fresh seafood and gathering outside in camp chairs. Earl enjoyed supporting the USC Gamecocks and traveled to Columbia for most home football games. In his retirement years, he enjoyed playing golf and traveling with Mary Frances in their RV. He was a long time member of St Paul's Lutheran Church.
He was predeceased by Mary Frances Fischer, his second wife Helen Smoak and his sisters Alice Ector and Bobbie Shuman.
He is survived by his four children, including his daughter Julie Bartlett (Dale), his son Roy Fischer III (Brenda), his son, Robbie Fischer (Helen) and his daughter, Mary Gearhart (Kip). He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Carlin Bartlett and Brian Bartlett (Mary Beth), Frances Wiedmer (Tyler) and Roy Fischer IIII, Robert Fischer (Meg) and Kate Fischer, and Craig Gearhart (Grace), Leanne Gearhart and Madison Koeman (Matthew), as well as his great-grandchildren, James and Eli Bartlett, Maverick and Connor Wiedmer, and Ande Fischer. He is also survived by step grandchildren, Virginia Hildreth (Jesse) and Duncan Pfaehler (Barb) and step-great grandchildren Cecily and Roberta Hildreth.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 17th at 10am in the fellowship hall at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 604 Pitt St. Mt. Pleasant, SC and will be followed by a funeral service at 11am in the sanctuary. Interment will follow at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery at McCants and Greenwich St. in Mt. Pleasant. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Chapel.
