Entered into eternal rest on the morning of July 14, 2011, Dr. Roy Gene Meyers, husband of Doris Florence Wolf Meyers.  Residence, Summerville, SC.  The relatives and friends of Dr. and Mrs. Roy Gene Meyers are invited to attend the funeral services of the former at the graveside in Beth Elohim Cemetery, Huguenin Avenue, Friday, July 15, 2011 at 10:00 am.


Dr. Meyers of Detroit, Michigan, was born February 14, 1922, the son of Louis Meyers and Lena Zelda Cohen Meyers. He attended Central High, where his main interests were baseball and track.  Joining the U.S. Air Force in 1942, he flew combat in the European and Mediterranean theaters of war and was shot down twice.  After World War II Roy utilizing G.I. benefits, attended Roosevelt University and was graduated from Chicago College of Optometry in 1950.  Summerville, SC is the location of his practice for 31 years.  As a graduate of Gesell Institutes course "Vision The School Age Child", his primary interest is behavioral optometry.  He has attended many O.E.P. and other functional vision seminars and congresses and work shops.  Roy is a fellow of COVD since its inception.


His professional history includes among other activities serving seven years on the COVD National Board of Examiners: COVD State Director; OEP State Director: 1970 Presidential Appointee to the White House conference on children; member of AOA Committee-Children and Youth Vision; Program director for S.E. Visual Learning Forum; member of International Academy of Preventive Medicine and the Roy Meyers Junior Open Golf Tournament at Miler Country Club was founded in 2004 in his honor.


He is survived by his wife, his daughter Elizabeth Meyers and his son Mark Meyers all of Summerville, SC; four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.


Memorials may be made to Temple of Beth Elohim Reform Congregation, 90 Hasell Street, Charleston, SC 29401.
