Roy Evans Baker, Jr., 77, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Connie Lyerly Baker entered into eternal rest Tuesday, June 16, 2015. His Funeral Service will be held Friday, June 19, 2015 in Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1605 Harborview Road at 10:00 a.m. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Roy was born November 10, 1937 in Sumter, South Carolina, son of the late Roy Evans Baker and Marie McCulloch Baker. He was a graduate of St. Andrews High School and attended the College of Charleston. He was owner of Lowcountry Printing and a retired Advertising Agent for the Post and Courier. Roy was the Past Commodore of the James Island Yacht Club, Past President of the Sertoma Club of Charleston, a member of BSA and former President of Packet Motor Express. He was an active member of Martin Luther Evangelical Lutheran Church. He served in the Army Reserves.
In addition to being a loving husband, a fabulous father and a devoted grandfather he enjoyed shrimping, fishing, boating, tennis and digging for old glass bottles.
Roy is survived by his wife of 53 years; daughter, Kimberly B. Hoxie (Mark); son, Michael Evans Baker (Alissa); and three grandchildren: Hanna McCulloch Hoxie, Evans Joseph Baker and Maryn Lyerly Baker.
