Roswell Erwin Valentine, 98, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of the late Sonya Grasek Valentine died Thursday, February 28, 2019. His memorial service will be held Thursday, March 7, 2019 in The Palms of Mt. Pleasant, 937 Bowman Road at 2:30 pm. Burial will be private. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.
Roswell was born May 4, 1920 in Huntington, New York, son of the late Foster Roswell Valentine and the late Beatrice Louise James Valentine. He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1942-1945, including the invasion of Okinawa. He benefited from the GI Bill, graduated from New York University, and retired from Sperry Corporation as an accountant.
He is survived by four nephews, Erik Kreutner (Katie) of Charleston, SC, Jason Kreutner (Tasha Eady) of Mount Pleasant, SC, Kevin Kreutner (Lourdes Lamela) of Kuwait City, Kuwait and Andrew Kreutner (Rebecca) of Charleston, SC and one niece, his goddaughter, Kara Kreutner Montgomery (Jay) of Columbia, SC. In addition, he is survived by one stepson, Stephen Grasek (Susan), four step-grandchildren, four grandnephews, nine grandnieces, and numerous Valentines across the country.
He was a loving husband, uncle and friend. He was fond of dancing, golfing, cheering on Roger Federer, and playing corn hole. He was a proud American who enjoyed a delicious meal and glass of champagne. Ross was a great storyteller, kind listener, and a true gentleman. He lived for the last five years at The Palms of Mount Pleasant, where he made many new friends. The family is grateful to the caregivers at The Palms and most recently at Savannah Grace for their devoted attention to Ross.
