Rosemary Nelson Hutto, 98, of Charleston, South Carolina, widow of Thomas Asbury Hutto entered into eternal rest Monday, December 19, 2016. Her Funeral Service will be held Saturday, December 31, 2016 in the Unitarian Church of Charleston, 4 Archdale Street at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be private. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Rosemary was born December 31, 1917 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Leroy Nelson and Rose May Humphry Nelson. She graduated from the College of Charleston in 1939 and served in the US Navy during WWII. Rosemary retired from Ashley Hall School and was an active member of the Unitarian Church of Charleston.
Rosemary is survived by her daughter, Susan H. Robinson (Charles) of Charleston, SC, daughter-in-law, Virginia Jensen Hutto of Mt. Pleasant, SC; four grandchildren: Thomas A. Hutto, III (Lindsay) of Charleston, SC, Eliza H. Cantwell (Josh) of Charleston, SC, Susie N. Robinson of Boston, MA, and Madison M. Hutto of Mt. Pleasant, SC; two great-grandchildren, Bowers Hills Cantwell and Ellis Humphrey Cantwell; brother, Dr. George H. Nelson of Mt. Pleasant, SC; three sisters-in-law: Anne McCraw Nelson, Maryann Cotten Nelson and Jeanne Culpepper Nelson; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Dr. Thomas Asbury Hutto, Jr. and her three brothers: Walter L. Nelson, Carl D. Nelson and Ernest R. Nelson.
The family would like to acknowledge her loving care givers especially Janee Covin, Gracie Lowry, Annette Caldwell, Gwen King, Betty Smith, Shavon Brown and the amazing team at Amedysis Hospice.
