Mount Pleasant

Rosemarie E. D'Anci

Rosemarie E. D'Anci, age 98 of Mount Pleasant, SC passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Sunday, February 2nd, 2025 at Somerby Memory Care. She was born in Allentown, PA on May 25th, 1926, daughter of the late Emilie and Harvey (Salliard) Raub. She is predeceased by her loving and devoted husband of 67 years, Frank P. D'Anci and her son Frank D'Anci, Jr. She is survived by her son Michael D'Anci and wife Daun of Denver, CO; daughter-in-law Janice D’Anci; two daughters: Mary Rose Kramak and her husband Sean of Saint Petersburg, FL, and Georgette Szymczak and her husband Rob of Mount Pleasant, SC, and 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Although Rose was not enlisted in any branch of the military, she faithfully and proudly served the US in occupied Germany after the Second World War, aboard transits back to the US with her son, or raising her family in support of her husband’s service with the 101st at Fort Campbell, KY.

Her Allentown roots - Yocco’s hotdogs, Lee Iacocca, and a love of beer - were always with her. She raised her family in Bergen County in NJ. A devoted student of Julia Childs, Rose was known by all for her culinary skills and until her final days a source of kitchen truth, knowledge, and her recipes will live long with her family. There is some thought that she may have grown to be a better chef than her mentor, Julia.

In her later years, she came to love a glass of red wine and sharing a favorite memory. She loved gardening, jigsaw puzzling and playing the dictionary game, where she reigned supreme because she was a voracious reader and able to break a word down to its fundamental origins. She became an avid Ohio State football fan and had a regular seat on Saturday afternoons, wherever she was, in front of the television with her Buckeye socks. The general consensus was that she and the socks were the power behind the Bucks.

Rose was always gracious, ever polite, genuine, considerate, classy, stylish, generous, and incredibly sincere. She never lost her ability to be amazed at things of beauty or acts of heroism.

Countless friends, as in too many to list here, came to consider her their second mother. All it took was some conversation about her days in Allentown, stories about how she met her husband, the house staff she employed in Germany, their dogs over the years, hunting stories, cooking stories, their days in Bergen County, their time in Vermont. It did not matter if you were blood, a family friend, or met her in a hospital - she truly was loved by all in her orbit. She has outlived all her dear friends from High School, but until the end she was the star of the show at their periodic reunions. In an increasingly cynical world, that may have been her greatest gift - the ability to make people feel loved and important. One of her grandson’s named her Queen Mom. The name stuck these last 25 years. She was everyone’s Queen Mom. The world is a better place for having her for nearly a century. She will forever be missed.

She will rest with her husband at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
