Rossie was born July 18, 1952, in Moultrie, Georgia, daughter of the late Homer G. Ray and the late Martha Beatty Ray. She was a Georgia girl, raised in Moultrie and Atlanta where she graduated from the Westminster School. Her interest in history led Rosalind to further her education by attending and graduating from Sweetbriar College in Virginia. She especially enjoyed the history of WWII, leading to one of her most memorable experiences, standing on Omaha Beach on her 60th birthday. Rosalind made a happy home for her family both in Atlanta and Madison, GA and most recently in the I'On community in Mt. Pleasant, a community she loved and where she had many friends and social activities. She will be remembered as someone who never met a stranger.
She is survived by her husband, Leroy Penn Spell of Mount Pleasant; children, Matthew Penn Spell and Anna Rosalind Thornton (Kyle); grandchildren, Mary Clark Ruiz Abad, and Maria Carolina Ruiz Abad; and siblings, Lauranna McGarity, Homer G. Ray, Jr.(Becky), Martha Jane Ray, and Markham Ray (Sheila).
