Rosa Elizabeth Thompson

October 18, 1911 — August 21, 2011

Rosa Elizabeth Thompson, 99, of Summerville, SC, formerly of Charleston, passed away at her residence Sunday, August 21, 2011.  Family and friends are invited to the memorial service at First (Scots) Presbyterian Church, 53 Meeting Street, on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at 10:00 am. Committal services will follow at 2:30 pm in Sumter Cemetery, Sumter, SC.  The family will greet friends of Elizabeth's at J. HENRY STUHR NORTHWOODS CHAPEL Monday, August 22, 2011 from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. 


Born October 18, 1911 in Charleston, SC, Elizabeth was the daughter of the late James Walter Thompson and Ella Rosa Gillespie Thompson.  She was a member of First (Scots) Presbyterian Church.  After receiving her master's degree in education, Elizabeth enjoyed teaching at Craft's and Memminger schools.  She was a charter member of NSDAR Fort Sullivan Chapter.  She was very active in the chapter for over 60 years and attended many state and national meetings.  Elizabeth received the DAR National Award for her work with the Veteran's Administration.  She was a charter member of Delta Kappa Gamma that was started in 1940.  Elizabeth was also a charter member of the Charleston Chapter of Embroidery Guild of America.  She attended many conferences and shows for her needlework. 


Elizabeth is survived by her two nieces, Sandra T. Waller of Anderson, SC and Mary Rose Simpson of Lilburn, GA; one nephew, James Walter Thompson of Furlong, PA; four great nieces, one great-great niece and three great-great nephews.  


Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Home of South Carolina, 201 West 9th North Street, Summerville, SC  29483.
