Entered into eternal rest on the evening of April 6, 2012, Chief Ronald William Hill, Jr., husband of Janet Deffenbaugh Hill of Goose Creek, SC. The relatives and friends of Chief and Mrs. Ronald W. Hill, Jr. are invited to attend the funeral service of the former in Fort Johnson Baptist Church Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Willowbrook Cemetery, Fisher, Illinois, Thursday, April 12, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. The family will receive friends in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 3360 Glenn McConnell Pkwy., Monday between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m.
Chief Hill was born February 25, 1955 in Gibson City, Illinois, a son of the late Ronald William Hill, Sr. and Patricia Hennigh Hill. He served as a volunteer fireman with several fire departments including Sangamon Valley Fire Department, Cornbelt Fire Department and Edge-Scott Fire Department between 1976 and 1989. He joined the James Island Fire Department in 1989 and retired as a Battalion Chief. He also served as an Instructor with the South Carolina Fire Academy.
Ronald is survived by his wife of Goose Creek; his mother of Fisher, IL; 2 sons, Avery Hill, Sr. of Goose Creek and Adam Hill (Jackie) of Mt. Pleasant; a brother, Richard Hill of Black Fort, ID; a sister, Tina O'Bryan of Fisher, IL; and 2 grandchildren, Avery "A.J." Hill, Jr. of Goose Creek and Ashlynn Hill of Saltville, VA. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald Hill.
