Ronald A. Cooksey, 79, of Summerville, SC, husband of Lana Huskey Cooksey entered into eternal rest Thursday, November 2, 2023. The family will receive friends Sunday, November 5, 2023 at the Hoffman residence at 2099 Kemmerlin Street, Johns Island, SC 29455, between 12:00 pm and 5:00 pm. Flowers will be accepted at M/M Hoffman's home in Oakfield Neighborhood. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel.

Ronnie was born December 5, 1943 in Spartanburg, SC, son of the late Eber and Sue Cooksey, a member of Cannons Camp Ground United Methodist Church. He served in the Naval Reserves. He was the courier for Bausch & Lomb while attending Fairforest High School and worked for Wilkins Opticians in Spartanburg after graduation. He moved to Charleston to help an Optometrist in West Ashley set up his own lab and worked for Jackson-Davenport Downtown. He was the Lab Manager for Southern Optical and after retirement he was a Lab Technician for Pearle Vision in North Charleston. He was a musician since age ten. He played guitar and sang in the Jamborettes Band and later joined Donnie and The Bee Bops Band to venture with them to Nashville to record on Sun Label. In local clubs he performed with The VIP's. Eventually Ronnie formed the Southern Style Band and was contracted with Howard Johnson's Red Room Lounge, at Hearon Circle, as Lounge and Band Manager. He was an energetic and great entertainer. Singing, hopping on tables while playing lead guitar and funny comments as the MC. His son, Jay, (15 at the time) was his drummer at various concerts and charity events.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Lana Cooksey; son, Ronald "Jay" (Tammy) Cooksey of Summerville, SC; two daughters, Kathleen "Kay" (Chris) Crocker of Spartanburg, SC, Lana "Niki" Nicole (Brian) Hoffman of Johns Island, SC; three granddaughters: Kristie O'Connor (Leanne) Paula, Taylor O'Connor (Brant Gillespie), Megan O'Connor (Will Tate); five grandsons: Christian Kyle (Danielle) Crocker, Nicolas "Cole" Crocker (Alexis Puckett), Austen (Kelsey Le) Adcock-Cooksey of Summerville, SC, Brandon Stryker and Timothy Stryker both of Tyler, TX; ten great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Brooks (Marilyn) Huskey of Woodruff, SC; sister-in-law, Anita Cooksey of FL; nieces, Sharon Boone and Mielani Cooksey; foster sons, Tony Smoak and Brent Allen; many great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Priscilla (Paul) Belue; brother, E. Jerry Cooksey; nephew, Norman Belue; and niece, Emily Cooksey Rodrigues.
