Roland was a principled patriarch. His life story embodies the "American dream" in which he emerges as a personal and professional success. His charisma and humor truly lit up each and every room. As we close our eyes and think back to Roland, we picture him sitting with a historical book, garlicky clams, and a hot coffee.

He is survived by two sons, LTC Mark Devita (Elizabeth) of Airville, PA and John DeVita (Diane) of Dupont, WA; five daughters, Mary DeVita of Boca Raton, FL, Diane Scandino (David) of Malabar, FL, Pamela Wasserman (Gene) of Edison, NJ, Lori MacAvaney of Wilmington, DE, and Kathleen Crossan of Dayton, OH; sister, Anne Marie Waterworth (Kenneth) of Waterbury, CT; fifteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
