Roger Harry Grothaus

Roger Harry Grothaus, 89, of Awendaw, South Carolina, husband of Janet Doles Grothaus entered into eternal rest Saturday, November 8, 2025. A private graveside service will be held at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens.

Roger was born October 13, 1936 in Hamilton, Ohio, son of the late Howard Edward Grothaus and Tura Avery Grothaus. He was a graduate of Purdue University and Earlham College, and earned a doctoral degree from Oklahoma State University. He proudly served in the United States Navy for 22 years and retired as a Commander. Following his military service career, Roger went to work in entomology, rising to the position of Vice President with the SC Johnson company in Racine, Wisconsin. He was an active member of Ocean Grove United Methodist Church, Awendaw, South Carolina.

In addition to his wife Janet, Roger is survived his daughters, Ann Marie Grothaus Dobbie of The Woodlands, TX, and Gail Grothaus vonRueden of Chicago, IL; his brother, Gary Edward Grothaus of Idaho; his grandchildren, Dr. Victoria D. Brehm (Dr. Tyler J. Brehm), Stuart H. Dobbie, Dr. Alexander D. vonRueden, and Tess A. vonRueden; and his great-grandchildren, Kaylin M. Dobbie, David J. Brehm, and William J. Brehm.
