Roena Blanchette Martin

Roena Blanchette Martin, 96, widow of Ernest P. Martin, died peacefully at her home Friday, July 16, 2010.  The relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral services in Folly Beach United Methodist Church Monday, July 19, 2010, at eleven o'clock.  A reception will be held at the residence, 306 East Huron Street, following the church service.  Interment, Greenlawn Memorial Park, Columbia, SC Tuesday, July 20, 2010, at twelve o'clock noon.  Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL Sunday between five and seven o'clock.

Born September 14, 1913 in Antreville, SC, she was one of eight children of the late Calvin Eugene and Sarah Jane Edy Blanchette.  After graduating from nurse's training, she worked at State Hospital in Columbia, SC, where she met her beloved husband to whom she was married for fifty years.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her only child, Fredric P. Martin and five of her siblings.  Mrs. Martin is survived by her sisters, Mary Harris Jenkins of Matthews, NC and Isabelle Miller of Concord, NC; her daughter-in-law, Irene Martin; her grandchildren, Lynne M. Lashley, Candace G. Martin, Fredric P. Martin, Jr. and Edgar E. Martin; her beloved nieces and nephew, Sherry French, Gail Cox and Tommy Blanchette.  She left six great-grandchildren and many great nieces and nephews bereft of her kind and loving touch.
