Roberta Jane Shanholtz Ketchin, 80, of Isle Of Palms, South Carolina, wife of Thomas Hoge Ketchin, III entered into eternal rest Friday, May 15, 2026, leaving behind a legacy enriched by her vibrant spirit and unwavering devotion to those she loved. Her Funeral Service will be held Thursday, May 21, 2026 at the St. Michael's Church, 71 Broad Street at 11:00 am. Reception to follow. Interment will be held Friday, May 22, 2026 at Bethel ARP Church Cemetery in Winnsboro, SC at 12:00 pm. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel.
Roberta was born August 9, 1945 in Clarksville, Ohio, daughter of the late Robert Jesse Shanholtz and the late Juanita Mae (Price) Shanholtz. Shortly after her birth the family moved to Wilmington, Ohio. Roberta graduated from Kingman High School and Ohio State University where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, George Clinton Chapter, Wilmington, Ohio. Roberta was a gifted Interior Designer and owner of Ali’s Alley Antiques and Interiors. Her work has been published in several magazines and the book Colors. When living in Columbia, Roberta was actively involved with the Sunshine House (Columbia Children’s Home) and various charities. She was instrumental in the rehabilitation of the Winnsboro Historic District and co-founder of the News and Herald Tavern Restaurant. Roberta was active in the Charleston Symphony Orchestra League and participated in many of the CSOL Designer Showhouses sponsored by the Symphony League. Throughout her life, Roberta was known for her remarkable passion for travel, which not only fulfilled her sense of adventure but also served as a cornerstone for her thriving antique business. She delighted in purchasing unique treasures during her journeys, curating collections that brought joy and inspiration to her clients. Her talent for decorating and creativity was more than a profession-it was a way she enriched the lives of many, transforming spaces with her keen eye and heartfelt dedication.
Above all else, Roberta cherished her role as a grandmother. The joy she found in her grandchildren was boundless, and she embraced this aspect of her life with profound love and enthusiasm. Her family was the foundation upon which she built a life of meaning, and her devotion to the love of her life reflected the deep and enduring partnerships she valued.
Roberta’s passing leaves a space filled with beautiful memories of a woman who lived fully, loved deeply, and inspired those around her with her creativity and caring heart. She will be remembered with respect and admiration by all who were fortunate to know her.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter, Caroline deVlaming Farrior (Billy); stepson, Thomas Stewart Ketchin (Nikki) and grandchildren: Evelyn Jane Farrior, Thomas McMaster Ketchin, Perrin Stewart Ketchin, Drake Elliott Ketchin and Lila Ann Ketchin. She is also survived by her brother, Larry Monroe Shanholtz; sisters: Kay Shanholtz Walt (Jon) and Sandra Doughman (Carroll); nieces: Christine Shanholtz, Cara Shanholtz Kiser (Lee), Jenna Shanholtz Sheeley (Clayton), Jessica Walt, Janelle Mercer, Kelly Doughman Benedict (Ed), and Kim Doughman Twine (Darrell); nephew, Sean Walt (JoAnna).
