Robert Edward Young, 85, of Isle of Palms, South Carolina, husband of Dolly Lubelsky Young died Friday, February 3, 2017. His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, February 7, 2017 in the J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, at 1:00 pm. Entombment with military honors will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 12:00 pm until time of the service.
Robert was born January 13, 1932 in Savannah, Georgia, son of William Utsey Young and Juel Morgan Young. He attended Newberry College, and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1953-1955, where he obtained the rank of Corporal. He was a Rifle Range Instructor at Parris Island and Annapolis, MD, and served in the National Guard. He retired from AT&T after thirty years of service as a telephone system technician. He was active in the Telephone Pioneers and American Legion Post #208. Robert was a life member of the Charleston Rifle Club, and charter member of the Mt. Pleasant Elks Club #2867. He was of the Baptist faith. Robert loved fishing, boating, gardening, duck hunting, and spending time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed monthly luncheons with his plant gang, and Friday night suppers with the telephone men.
Robert is survived by his wife of 62 years; his daughters, Karen Young Paulsen (John), and Nancy Young Fitch (Billy); his son, Robert E. Young, Jr; five grandchildren, Clarence William Fitch, Jr. (Ashley), Kelley Fitch Shisko (Joseph), Arthur DeWitt Lehr (Jessica), Austin Edward Lehr, and Adam Morgan Lehr; three great-grandchildren, Grace Mims Fitch, Lilly Ann Lehr, and Annabelle Grace Lehr; and life long friends, Belton Tisdale and Joe Rabon.
