Robert Rassie York

Entered into eternal rest on the evening of May 28, 2010, Robert Rassie York, husband of Alva Hilton York. Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Robert R. York are invited to attend the funeral services of the former on Wednesday, June 2, 2010, in First Christian Church of Charleston at Eleven O'clock. Interment will follow in Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday one hour prior to the service. Mr. York was born March 15, 1917, in Marshall, NC, the son of the late John Thomas York and Emma Matilda Boone York. He was a retired boilermaker at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He served as an Elder at First Christian Church of Charleston. He was a veteran of the US Navy and the US Merchant Marines. He was a member of American Legion Post #179. He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Susan K. York of Charleston, SC and Glenda Ann York and her husband, Jim Lavender of Watkinsville, GA; two sisters, Veleria York of Charleston, SC and Lucille York Rippy of Conway, SC; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; son-in-law, Henry Dorkewitz and his wife, Kathy. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Lee Dorkewitz. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to First Christian Church, 1293 Orange Grove Road, Charleston, SC 29407 or to Hospice of Charleston Foundation, 676 Wando Park Boulevard, Mt.
