Robert Wilson “Bobby” Cannan, of Mount Pleasant, SC, passed away the morning of December 24, 2023, at the age of 65 after an 18-year battle with kidney disease and a more recent diagnosis of chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
Bobby was born on September 25, 1958, in Charleston, SC to Philip L. Cannan, Sr. and Catherine Hartmann Cannan, both of whom preceded him in death. After graduating from Wando High School in 1976, he attended the University of South Carolina and the University of Florida. Bobby found fulfillment in landscaping work before his health declined.
Courageous and unrelenting in his health battles, Bobby was known not just for his perseverance, but also for his blunt and unrestrained sense of humor. He was a lifelong fan of football, all things science fiction, superhero comics, and thrill rides. A music and movie buff, he enjoyed classic rock and watching movies, especially in the theater. Most of all, he loved his family and the time he spent with them. His presence is deeply missed.
Bobby is survived by one sister: Catherine C. Steinbrecher (John) of Ravenel, SC; three brothers: Philip L. Cannan, Jr. (Judith) of Alexandria, VA, Richard D. Cannan of Norfolk, VA, and Bruce D. Cannan (Kimberly) of Lexington, SC; five nieces: Shelly Beasenburg (Joey), Alison Dixon, Georgina Cannan, Haley Baker (Jordan), and Abigail Cannan; three nephews: Brian Dixon (Susan), Brett Steinbrecher (Darcy), and Andrew Cannan; three great-nieces: Bailey Beasenburg, Riley Beasenburg, and Addilyn Baker; and four great-nephews: Cody Beasenburg, Carter Beasenburg, Ryan Delaney, and Levi Steinbrecher.
The family would like to thank Dr. DeAnna Cheek and the staff at Fresenius Dialysis Center in Mt. Pleasant for the many years of wonderful and loving care that they provided.
Bobby's Memorial Service will be held Saturday, January 6, 2024, in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Bethany Cemetery.
