Robert M. Walsh

It is with deep sorrow that the family of Robert M. Walsh announces his passing on January 17, 2018 after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. He was born in Boston on November 10, 1934.

Bob was, as many of his friends said, "A really good guy". His zest for life, ever smiling nature and humor showed him to be exactly that. He will be greatly missed by his family and abundance of friends from Boston and Charleston. Bob loved life along with Choral singing, golf, bridge, chess and poker. His greatest love was being Irish and had many travels to the "Emerald Isle" often a yearly event. He studied Irish History and Anthropology with a vengeance, and his thirst for knowledge of Early Man was boundless.

He was the son of the late Robert M. Walsh, Sr. and Teresa Cannon Walsh of Boston, MA. Bob leaves behind his beloved wife, Joanne (Burokas) Walsh of 45 years. He is the father of Jessica Walsh Hall (Bill) of Summerville, SC, Andrew Dylan Walsh of Tempe, AZ, Robert M. Walsh III of Meridian, CT., and Tracey D. Walsh of Braintree, MA. He is the Grandfather of Dylan Lauder Hall, and has many nieces & nephews. Also surviving are his sisters Jeanne Walsh Pierce of NYC, Marilyn Walsh McCarty of Scottsdale, AZ, and was predeceased by his sister Carolyn Martin of Woolwich, ME.

Bob grew up in Boston and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He then became employed at Polaroid Corporation. He started as an assembly line employee at the age of 22 and with many promotions he became a Sr. Human Resource Manager and retired in 1995 after 43 years. Bob hired employees from machinists to scientists, trades people, chemists, model makers and maintenance people. His ability to converse with all levels of skilled people came through in his everyday life. If a job was needed to be filled, Bob could seek out the best qualified person for any position. He estimates he hired over 4,000 employees during his tenure there. Bob was member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and a former member of the Elks Lodge #242.

They are a remarkable organization that took care of Bob with dignity & respect during the late stages of his disease.

Bob lived his life to its fullest. It was a life well spent and a spirit that will be forever missed. For all those who knew and loved Bob, there will be a celebration of Bob's life that will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 17th at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Rd., Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. A reception will follow there.
