Bob Turner, formerly of Gracey, KY passed away on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at the age of 85 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born at home in Cerulean, KY, Bob helped his family tend the land until joining the Navy at age 18. He served for 5 yrs during the Korean War. Bob left the Navy in 1955 for a job at AT&T, armed with a GED & propensity for electronics. He started as a climber stringing wire from pole to pole, rising through the ranks, Bob retired from AT&T Headquarters after 34 yrs, including 6 with Bell Labs to which he was supremely proud. In 1954, before leaving Service, he met, married & started a family in San Mateo, CA, with his wife Marguerite. They were married for 54 yrs & had 3 children prior to his wife passing in 2008. Bob is
also preceded in death by his son Jim in 2010. Active in his community, Bob supported Scouting, Little League (being enshrined in the San Mateo Little League Hall of Fame), City Council & all his cherished neighbors.
Bob is survived by his daughter Joyce Turner; son John Turner & wife Susan; daughter in law Kristine Turner; grandchildren Ashley, Austin, Amber, Mike & Matt Turner; great grandchildren Ava Kershaw & Shawn Turner; sisters Virginia White, Peggy Ryan & Ethel Kremer & husband Jerry. Bob was also preceded in death by his parents; son in law, Ted Gearhart & brother "Hayden" Turner.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2018 at 1:00 pm in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. An Interment will be held on Monday, October 1, 2018 at 12:00 pm at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West in Hopkinsville, KY with full Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to a local Scouting or Little League organization of choice.
