Robert F. Townsend

Entered into eternal rest on the afternoon of January 14, 2011, Robert F. Townsend husband of Marie Heiterer Townsend. Residence, James Island, SC.  The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. Townsend are invited to attend the funeral services of the former, Tuesday January 18, 2011 at 11:00 am at the graveside in Holy Cross Cemetery. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, Monday between 5:00 and 7:00 pm.

Robert was born April 28, 1939 in Fayetteville, NC, the son of Paul E. Townsend and Mildred Sanderson Townsend.  Robert served in the U.S. Army for brief time; he then served in the S.C. Army National Guard, as a Sergeant for 16 years.  Robert retired as a Mechanical Contractor with Berkeley Heating and Air; he served as president of the S.C. Mechanical Contractors Association and ASHRAE.  He was active in the James Island Yacht Club, and was a member of the Church of the Nativity.

He is survived by his wife Marie of James Island, SC; son: Robert F. Townsend, Jr. (Susan) of James Island, SC, daughters: Yvonne T. Maher (Ray) of James Island, SC, Tammy T. Whaley (Keith) of Concord, NC, and Sandy M. Townsend of Folly Beach, SC; 6 Grandchildren,  who called him "Pop" Ashley, Katherine, Allyson, Christopher, Sarah and Matthew; sister, Ann T. Smith of Arkansas and brother Paul E. Townsend of James Island, SC.
