LTC Robert H. Thrasher, Jr., U.S. Army (Ret.). of Columbia, SC, formerly of Charleston, SC, passed away on Wednesday August 10, 2016 at the age of 52. Robert was born in Columbus, GA to Caroline Irvine and COL Robert H. Thrasher Sr., U.S. Army (Ret).
He graduated from The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, in 1986. Upon graduation, he received his commission as a Quartermaster Officer and reported to his initial assignment as a platoon leader with the 82nd Airborne Division in Ft. Bragg, NC. Robert went on to have a distinguished and honorable military career. His decorations, medals, badges, and campaign ribbons include: the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal, the Parachutist Badge, and the Air Assault Badge. After 26 years of service, he retired as a LTC in May 2012.
He is survived by his three children, Ashlen Thrasher, Megan Thrasher, and Kristan Thrasher and their mother, Kristan Harden Thrasher; his granddaughter Opal Caroline Gattis; his parents Gary and Caroline Irvine and COL Robert H. Thrasher Sr. (Ret.); his half brother Eric Thrasher; and his step-brothers Jim and Michael Crippen. He was preceded in death by his younger brother Gary Irvine Jr.
Rob will be remembered as a loving father, son, brother, and friend and for his passionate and dutiful service to the United States of America.
