Robert Thomas Brown

Robert Thomas (Tom) Brown, of Mount Pleasant, SC, died at home, surrounded by his family, after a long illness. Tom was born in Covington, KY and was preceded in death by his parents; Clifford Brown, Sr. and Virginia Brown of Bradenton, FL.

In 1973, Tom joined The Kentucky State Police (KSP) force and retired as a Sergeant in 1990. Tom’s career with the KSP was diverse as he served as a Trooper, an undercover narcotics officer, and headed the Executive Security Detail of Lt. Governor Steve Beshear. Tom finished his career as an instructor at the Kentucky State Police Academy.

Tom and his family moved to South Carolina in 1990, and he joined the Public Safety Department of the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC). Beginning as an officer on the force, Tom advanced to Chief of the Department and served there until October 2003. At that time, Tom became the Controlled Substance Auditor in the Internal Audit Department of the University, and then retired from the Department in 2013.

Tom was an exceptional husband and father to “his girls.” He leaves behind his loving wife of fifty-three years, Sandra Godman Brown, his much loved daughters, Cassaundra Brown and Cara Brown, and his loyal canine companions, Shadow and Willow. He also leaves his sister, Virginia Carter of Bradenton, FL, his brother, Henry Brown of Orlando, FL, his sister Karen Ward of Fort Wright, KY, and his brother Clifford Brown, Sr. of Bradenton, Fl. He was proceeded in death by his brother, David Brown of Carrollton, GA.

Tom loved nature, traveling, playing pickleball and feeding the flocks of wild birds he nurtured. He was the happiest walking in the woods, enjoying the majesty of the world he liked to travel or sitting at home with “his girls” on a beautiful South Carolina evening.
