Robert McDaniel Rush, 71, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Brenda Crowley Rush, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at his James Island home. A Funeral Service will be held, Saturday, August 18, 2012 in John Wesley United Methodist Church, 626 Savannah Highway at 3:00 pm. Burial services following will be private. The family will receive friends Saturday in the Church Parlor from 2:00 pm until time of service.
Robert was born December 8, 1940 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of Charles Seay Rush and Martha McDaniel Rush. He retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard after 31 years of service as a Loftsman and later retired from BAE Systems as a Design Drafter. He was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church and the Lupo Sunday School Class, The College of Charleston Cougar Club, The Historic Charleston Foundation, The Preservation Society of Charleston, and Sons of the Confederate Veterans, Secessionville Camp #4. He enjoyed gardening, reading and spending time with his family. Robert was a great fan of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes and John Mortimer's Rumpole of the Bailey book series.
Robert is survived by his wife of 40 years, Brenda Crowley Rush of Charleston, SC, daughter, Mary Beth Bostick (Robby) of Charleston, SC, daughter, Jennifer Peterson (Yuri) of Charleston, SC, daughter, Susie Sheets (Jeff) of Virginia Beach, VA, daughter, Lynn Knox (Dwight) of Charleston, SC, son, Robert Elam (Dee Dee) of Charleston, SC, brother, Charles Seay Rush, Jr. of Charleston, SC, 6 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sister, Mary Ellen Rush Horsley.
