Robert "Bobby" Owens

Robert "Bobby" Owens, 91, entered into eternal rest on Monday, October 28, 2024 at Roper Hospital.

Bobby was born March 7, 1933 in Sumter, South Carolina, son of the late Frances Montalbano and Daniel Singleterry Owens, Jr. Bobby attended Charleston schools, he left Murray Vocational to join the Army. He served in Germany and was happy to have this experience for approximately four years. After his return home, he was in the yard lifting weights, our neighbor Rosco Fowler asked Bobby if he wanted a job, he said yes. He told Bobby to go to SCE&G. When he got there Mr. Fowler had notified them. He was hired right then and they asked when he would begin - Bobby said now.

Bobby was a lineman for many years. He retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He was a member of Ashley River Baptist Church, and the Charleston Rifle Club. He was also an active member of Elks Lodge 242 for 55 years, and earned Elk of the Month and Elk of the Year. He loved this organization and the friends he made while in it. He loved to sing and always participated and sang many solos in the Grand Ole Opry Show.

Bobby helped organize the first Street Rod Club and they had shows at Bessingers BBQ monthly. He also loved antique cars.

Bobby was a kind, loving, and funny guy, loved deeply by family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Frederick M Ehni; Willis K. Mylin, M.D.

Bobby is survived by his sisters, Frances Anne Owens Ehni, and Melba Owens Mylin; best friend, Derrick Rhodes; three nieces, Mitzie Brinson Auerbach (Michael), Diana Mylin Clair (Harold), and Terrie Mylin Brown (Ronald); five great-nephews; one great-niece; seven great-great-nephews; three great-great-nieces; one great-great-great nephew.

Bobby's baby sister, Melba, has been his loving caregiver most of his life. They were very close, he called her his angel, and she was. We are blessed to have a sister like her.
