Entered into eternal rest on the evening of June 28, 2011, Robert Stanley Ostendorff, 79, husband of Patricia Louise Sutton Ostendorff. Residence, Walterboro, SC. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ostendorff are invited to attend his memorial service Friday, July, 1, 2011 in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL at 3pm. Burial will be conducted at a later time in Beaufort National Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel one hour prior to service.
Mr. Ostendorff was born on December 10, 1931 in Charleston, SC, son of the late Louis Frederick Ostendorff and the late Dorothy Ruth Pieper Ostendorff. Mr. Ostendorff graduated from Charleston High School, The Citadel, and received a Masters Degree from Central Michigan University. Robert was a United States Army veteran. He was a Mason, 32rd Degree, A Shriner, an Elk, a member of Woodmen of the World, Travelers Protective Association where he served as President and Secretary/Treasurer for several years. He was a member of The Citadel Alumni Association, The Charleston Citadel Club, The Summerville Citadel Club, The Central Michigan Alumni Association and a past member of the German Friendly Society. He was also a member of the South Carolina Lutheran Men in Mission and served as Coastal District President, St. Andrews Lutheran Men, Lutheran Brotherhood and St. Andrews Lutheran Church where he served as Councilman and Chairman of various committees. He was employed by the US Treasury Dept., The Charleston Naval Shipyard, and the US Naval Supply Center, during which time he was President of the Federal Managers Association. He was an organizer and the first President of the South Carolina Cooperative Education Association.
Surviving are his wife Patricia Ostendorff of Walterboro; son, R. Stanley Ostendorff, Jr. and wife Shirley of Charleston; daughter, Sarah Ruth Cunningham and husband Chuck of Charleston and their four children, Chris, Robbie, Donnie, and Sarabeth; sister, Dorothy Ryan and her husband Bill of Charleston; five nieces, Susan, Mary, Joanna, Paula and Donna; three nephews, Louie, Eric and Tommy; two step daughters, Brenda and Lorrie; and two step sons, Steve and Mark all of Walterboro. He is preceded in death by a son Louis Eugene Ostendorff and by his brother Louis F. Ostendorff.
