Robert Edward Novit, 76, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2025. Robert was born February 4,1949, in Walterboro, South Carolina , son of Samuel Novit and Freida Lipsitz Novit Potolsky. He was a print journalist and photographer. He began working for the Walterboro, Press and Standard in 1971. He won over 100 awards from the South Carolina Press Association.

Robert volunteered extensively while in Walterboro. He coached youth sports, served as the chairman of the Red Cross Bloodmobile, and served on the board of the Colleton County Disabilities and Special Needs. From 2001 to 2016, Robert was the education beat reporter on the Aiken, SC, daily paper. He also enjoyed community theater.

He is predeceased by his parents, step-father, Nathan Potolsky, brother, Dr Mitchell Novit and sister, Janet Novit Gilston. He is survived my his brother - in - law, David Gilston (LInda) and his sister - in - law, Judy Novit. He is also survived by his loving nieces and nephews, Phyllis Katzen (Marvin), Sherry Bryson (Scott), Samuel Gilston (Michelle), David Novit (Susan), Amy Novit Kehoe (Scott), a wonderful group of great and great-great nieces and nephews, and many cousins.

The family wishes to thank Gentiva Hospice and the staff of Indigo Hall for their compassionate care during these final years.

Burial will be Thursday, November 6, 1 pm, Live Oak Cemetery, Walterboro, SC.
