Robert "Bob" Anderson Newton of The Charleston Metro area, died Tuesday April 2, 2019. His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, April 6, 2019 in the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Stuhr Northwoods Chapel.
Mr. Newton was born in South Boston, VA on July 19, 1937, the only child of Henry Anderson Newton and Ruhama Ava Terry Newton.
On February 10, 1963 he married Norma Gayle Lytle in Fort Mill, SC. He was always proud to say that he was still married to the one he picked out in the summer of 1962. He is survived by his wife, Norma Lytle Newton, PhD, two daughters: Elizabeth Newton Gilbert (Danny) and Frances Newton Hylton, four grandsons Austin Gilbert (Ashley), Cameron Gilbert (Lauren), Brendan Gilbert (Hailey), and Brad Hylton (Anna Grace); one great-granddaughter, Abigayle Marie Gilbert.
Bob graduated from North Charleston High in 1955 and later graduated from The College of Charleston with a degree in Economics. He had a 50 year career that included Banking, Real Estate brokerage, Appraisals and Investments. He had a South Carolina Certified Real Estate Appraisers License and a S.C. Real Estate Brokers License.
His civic, cultural and business activities included, President and Board member with The North Charleston Kiwanis Club, South Carolina Lieutenant Governor for Kiwanis International, and Local Chapter President of The Society of Real Estate Appraisers. He graduated from the Savings & Loan Institute degree program and served a term as their local chapter president. He was a Lifetime member of The Appraisal Institute and a Lifetime Member of The College of Charleston Alumni Association and member of the Alumni Association Board. He was a member and Chairman of the Berkeley County Appeal Board for 37 years.
His loves were God, family, singing and performing. He was a founding member of The Original Loafers in the 1950's during high school years. They reunited in the 90's performing through 2014. He was a member of The Gospelaires as a bass singer traveling extensively though out the south east in the 1970's.
