Robert (Robbie) Lamar Miller, son of Henry Preston and Nellie Janette (Christopher) Miller of North Charleston, South Carolina, died on Monday, October 24, 2011 surrounded by loving family.
Robbie grew up in the Garco Mill Village near Park Circle. He played baseball as a child and teen and was actually quite good. He was often found shagging at Danny Jones and the Folly Beach Pier, and was quite talented at that as well. He played guitar and could sing, was a fabulous storyteller, loved to laugh and to make people feel at ease. He was good at everything and could have been anything he wanted to be, but all he ever wanted to do was marry his high school sweetheart. He was so good at that, he did it twice.
He left North Charleston High School in 1967 to join the Air Force and get married and was promptly sent to Vietnam. One of the luckier service members, he returned home in one piece to meet the first of his two daughters. He went on to serve in the Air Force for 20 years, raised a family all over the country and overseas and returned home to retire in 1987, taking a job as a Department of Defense police officer at the Charleston Naval Weapons Station.
He had many things to be proud of, but his greatest pride was in his children and grandchildren that he adored. He is preceded in death, by his parents and sister, Ethel Pitts.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine Jeanette Driggers, his daughters, Rhonda Taylor (Aaron) and Monica Hossele (Craig), his brothers, Buster Miller and Tommy Miller, his grandchildren, Mason Taylor, Arden Taylor, Reece Brannon, Cole Taylor, Emily Brannon, and Christopher Hossele, all of his beloved sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, many nieces, nephews, cousins and dearest lifelong friends. He will be missed.
