Col. Robert Donald Miller, USMC (Ret.), 82, of Isle Of Palms, South Carolina, husband of Julianna Preston Miller passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2015. His Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, February 16, 2015 in Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, 1204 Middle Street, Sullivan's Island. Interment, with Military Honors, will be held at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC. MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL.
Robert was born November 19, 1932 in East Alton, Illinois, son of the late William Eathel Miller and Eddie DeVasher Miller. He was retired from the U.S. Marines, having faithfully served his country during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with numeral 19, the Navy Commendation Medal with Combat "V" and the Gold Star, and the National Defense Service Medal with one star, and several other recognitions. Robert was a parishioner at Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, where he was a member of the Men's Group. A member of the VFW, he was also a member of the Lowcountry Leathernecks, and the Military Order of World Wars (MOWW).
He strongly believed in giving of himself to his country, his family, and his community. Robert helped make the downtown area of Isle of Palms what it is today.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Julianna Preston Miller of Isle of Palms, SC; his children, Margaret Victoria Miller and her husband, Michael D. Pack, Sr. of Isle of Palms, SC, Robert Christopher Miller and his wife, Gayle Suzanne Miller of Seattle, WA, and Mark "JJ" Miller and his wife, M. Jessica Miller of Mount Pleasant, SC; his seven grandchildren; his seven great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Gerald Miller of Daytona, FL and Glen Miller of San Diego, CA.
