Former Charleston County Chief Magistrate Robert Elmore Miller, passed away Thursday, September 30, 2010 at a local nursing home.
Known as the 'policeman's magistrate', he was widely respected by various law enforcement agencies throughout Charleston County.
Judge Miller was first appointed Charleston County Magistrate February, 1982. He served the James Island and West Ashley districts of Charleston County. After 30 years of service to the State of South Carolina and Charleston County, Judge Miller retired April 30, 1996.
Robert Elmore Miller was born November 3, 1929 in Charleston to Lawrence Everett Miller and Mildred Murdaugh Miller.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Mount Miller of James Island, SC; four sons: Robert E. Miller, Jr. and his wife Jill of Charleston, SC, Eugene L. Miller and his wife Michele of Orangeburg, SC, Richard M. Miller and his wife Donna of Charleston, SC and Bruce K. Miller and his wife Lynn of Charleston, SC; one daughter: Lori A. Miller Starr and her husband Dan of Denver, CO; one sister: Alice M. Callahan and her husband Jerry of Columbia, SC; six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, Sunday between 4 and 6 pm. A private graveside service will be held Monday at Holy Cross Cemetery on James Island.
