Robert "Bobby" M. Williams, 94, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, husband of Laura A Williams entered into eternal rest Saturday, November 30, 2024. His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, December 10, 2024 in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road at 1:00 pm. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Mount Pleasant Chapel.
Bobby was born June 30, 1930 in Boston, Massachusetts, son of Louis Williams and Fannie Kurr Williams. He graduated high school from Boston English in 1948. Following school he joined the U.S. Navy, where he served on the Battleship Iowa during the Korean War. Following his discharge from the military, he attended Boston University, and started work in selling pump equipment.
Bobby married Laura Ranbom from Malden, MA, in 1964, and his entrepreneurial side began to emerge. He owned a franchise for the famous ladies exercise salon, Elaine Powers in Boston. One of the downsides of this endeavor was that the salon facility was ladies only. He was not allowed into his business during business hours. Bobby then owned and operated an ITOA (Independent Taxi Operators Association) cab company serving downtown Boston. That is where he learned how to deal with city government and related regulations. He was also the owner operator of Shecky's Deli, a fixture to 60,000 commuters a day in Boston's South Station.
As his working career wound down, Bobby was the winner of the much coveted Inventors Award, awarded by Raytheon Corporation, the citation reading "for Creative Genius In Devising Methods to Attend Raytheon Functions." (Laura worked for Raytheon.)
After retirement Bob and Laura moved to Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, a Charleston suburb, owning a beach house on Isle of Palms. He was a founding member of the Charleston Martini Club, rising through the ranks to be anointed President for Life. The club remained active until Bobby's retirement from the public in 2023.
Along with his wife of 60 years, Laura Williams, he is survived by many loved nieces and nephews.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Fannie Williams; and sisters, Rosalind, Dorothy, and Leah.
