Robert Danforth Lindell of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina passed away on Monday, May 27, 2024.

He was born on February 18, 1936 in Brooklyn, New York; the son of H. Danforth Lindell, and Trina Olsen Lindell. He is survived by his wife, Hilda, son Kurt Robert Lindell, (wife Darlene), granddaughter Juliana Lindell. Also, son, Paul Erik Lindell (wife, Kristina), and his son John D. Lindell, and stepson Jake White and stepdaughter Lexie White.

After graduation from Ft. Hamilton High School, Brooklyn NY, he joined the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict, serving as Radarman aboard the USS Northampton; and traveled to many ports of call.

Shortly after leaving the military service, he joined the New York Police Department; serving for thirty years in many capacities; ending his career as lead officer of the Personnel Division. During those years, he turned his interest in education attended and graduated from Brooklyn College and John Jay College of Criminal Justice, earning his Masters Degree.

Service and volunteerism were most important in his life, and he played an active role in the United States Jaycees, in New York. When his sons became of such age, he served the Boy Scouts of America for several years and was Scout Master for Troop 428 New York.

He was also an avid coin and stamp collector; and embraced photography; amassing an extensive photographic library; including the hundreds of pictures taken on the many travels across the globe he and his wife enjoyed for several years.

Upon retirement from the NYPD he joined the Medical Liability Insurance Company as an Investigator for sixteen years.

In full retirement he and his wife moved to Smith Mountain Lake Virginia; enjoying an active lake life for seventeen years. He joined the local American Legion Post; serving several capacities; and fueling his keen interest in history, became a tour guide at the National D-Day Memorial, Bedford, Virginia, meeting people from all over the globe.
