CDR. Robert Herman Knight, USN, Ret., 97, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Frances Godfrey Knight, entered eternal rest Sunday, August 16, 2026. The family will receive friends and loved ones Friday, August 28, 2026 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel. His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 29, 2026 at Ashley River Baptist Church at 11:00 am, followed by interment at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. Reception to follow at Scottish Rite Center (West Ashley).

Robert was born January 11, 1929 in Charleston, South Carolina son of the late Roy P. Knight and Verna Rudd Knight. He was a graduate of Charleston High School class of 1947 and graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1953. He was a member of the Fleet Reserve, life member of The Naval Academy Alumni Association, Military Order of World Wars, Navy League, Past Master of Orange Charleston Town Masonic Lodge #14 York Rite, Scottish Rite, and Omar Temple. Perhaps his most important title of all was Bebob, a nickname affectionately given by his grandchildren. By countless friends and neighbors, he was famously known as Bob or "Fuzzy" and was a stranger to no one. Bob’s selfless services to his community, church, and family were founded in unwavering love and compassion. Bob was a man of God who loved his neighborhood, sailing, telling jokes, golfing, and most of all his family. He was one of a kind and we will all miss him deeply. We ask that you share a hug and “Bob joke” with someone today in honor of our beloved dad/Bebob. “And may there be no moaning at the bar when I put out to sea.”

In addition to his wife, Frances G. Knight, he is survived by his daughter, Cynde Sisson of Portsmouth, VA; son, Robert L. Knight of Hope Sound, FL; stepson, John William Hunter, Jr. of Charleston, SC; three granddaughters, Melissa H. Welden, Rebecca R. Hunter, Kim Smith; three grandsons, John W. Hunter, III, Jeremy B. Hunter, Bobby Knight; and four great grandchildren.

Bob was preceded in death by his father Roy P. Knight, mother Verna Rudd Knight, his sister Joyce Everts, and brother Heyward P. Knight.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Charleston Southern University’s Veterans Center.

Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel.
