Robert Carlisle Jones

August 2, 1918 — May 10, 2011

Robert Carlisle Jones, son of Fred Auld Jones and Carrie Isabel Carson Jones, born August 2, 1918 in Pine Grove Community, Calhoun County, SC, went to be with his Lord on May 10, 2011.


He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Myrtle Holland Jones of Hanahan and one daughter, Deborah Jones Lairsey and her husband John of North Charleston, SC and one sister, Frances Isabel Jones Thompson of Orangeburg, SC.  He was predeceased in death by his parents; one brother, George Leonald Jones of Allendale, SC; three sisters:  Sarah Jane Jones Schardt of Vero Beach, FL, Miriam Harriet Catherine Jones Stroman and Myrtle Carolyn Jones Stroman both of Orangeburg, SC.


Retired Supervisor - Industrial Engineering Technician, Production Department at Charleston Naval Shipyard.  Attended Orangeburg High School and Murray Vocational School, Charleston, SC.  He was a proud Veteran of WWII in the US Navy aboard the USS Atlanta and DD Floyd Parks, serving in the South Pacific Theater.  Also served in SC State National Guard and US Coast Guard Reserves.  He was a Life Member of Hammerton Lodge #332, North Charleston, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite.  Retired from local #333 I.A.T.S.E where he served as Steward for Dock Street Theatre and 21 years of service with the Foot Light Players. Also a member of Omar Shrine Temple where he served on the Director's Staff.  Past Commander of VFW, John L. Weeks Post 3142, American Legion - Palmetto Post 112 - Chaplin Emeritus.  Former active member of Cherokee Place Methodist Church, First Southern Methodist Church where he served as Co-chairman of the Building Committee and most recently an active member of Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church in Hanahan.


The funeral service will be held in J. HENRY STUHR MT. PLEASANT CHAPEL, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Friday, May 13, 2011 at 11:30 AM.  Entombment will follow at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends in Stuhr's Mt. Pleasant Chapel one hour prior to the service.


In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Piedmont Hospice, 18 Leinbauch Drive, Suite E1, Charleston, SC 29407.
