Robert Leverne Infinger Jr.

March 8, 1950 - January 9, 2024

It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Robert L. Infinger, Jr., on January 9th, 2024 in St. Petersburg, FL.  As a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, he touched the lives of those around him with his gentle spirit and compassionate nature.

He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Sally Infinger; son, Robert L. Infinger III; daughter: Kathleen Szalay; stepson, Charlie Nisbet; grandchildren: Sebastian Szalay, Ashton Infinger and Eva Infinger; brothers, Clint Infinger (Kayethe) and Jason Blodgett (Lara); and sisters: Therease Metivier (Chris) and Tammy Phillips (Jeff).

Born on March 8th, 1950 in Georgetown, SC, he was the son of the late Robert Leverne Infinger, Sr. and Betty Williams Infinger Blodgett. He was brother to the late Ebbin Infinger, William Thomas Infinger and Barbara Infinger Westervelt and was widowed to the late Ellen Rushing Infinger.

Bobby was also known for his dedication to his country.  As a graduate of the Citadel, class of ’72, he then served admirably as a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, from which he was honorably discharged in 1978. Colleagues and friends remember him for his strong work ethic, integrity, and generosity.

He devoted his life to God and earned a graduate degree in Divinity from Emory University and served as a Minister in the United Methodist Church until he retired in 2015. When he wasn’t writing sermons and preaching the Word of God on Sundays, he spent countless hours visiting with sick patients in hospitals, performing funerals and counseling church members on a variety of subjects to help make their lives better.

He also had the honor of officiating the weddings of both of his children, which he called two of the happiest days of his life.

Bobby had an affinity for music and singing. Which is why he was so proud and outspoken about his daughter Kathleen’s successful opera and theater career.  He enjoyed watching movies and tv shows, and loved going to the movie theater, which he did with his son Robert on many occasions. He loved spending time with his brothers, sisters, extended family, and Citadel buddies. Whether it be on holidays or whenever they could find the right time to meet. He did his best to make time for the people he loved and be there for them in their time of need.  In retirement, he found peace and tranquility relaxing in a chair outside in his backyard with his wife Sally, enjoying nature and the warm Florida weather with a cigar and glass of scotch.

A memorial service to celebrate Bobby’s life will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 11:00 am in J. Henry Stuhr – Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464.  The family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 am.

Inurnment will take place at Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens Cemetery following the service.
