Robert Wesley Hunt, 85, of Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Barbara Blackmon Hunt passed away Saturday, November 4, 2017. His Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, November 8, 2017 in the Magnolia Cemetery, 70 Cunnington Avenue at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street.
Bob was the son of the late Martin Van Buren Hunt and the late Octavia Ruth Soubeyroux Hunt. He was born December 3, 1931 in the front room of 72 George Street, Charleston, SC. He grew up in downtown Charleston, graduating from Charleston High School, moving to James Island in 1961 to raise his family. He owned H&H Auto Sales before retiring and then became well known in the boating community for his knowledge and selling of outboard motors. He was a member of the Antique Outboard Motor Club, a lifetime member of the James Island Yacht Club and enjoyed many days out on the water. He was a founding member of "The Liars Club" aka morning coffee with his friends at the James Island McDonalds. Bob was a two-time cancer survivor and lived with genetic hemochromatosis. He was a lifelong Clemson fan. Go Tigers!
He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Barbara Blackmon Hunt and is survived by their children, Barbara Ruth Hunt (Allison), Wes Hunt of Fernandina Beach, FL and Millicent Hunt Drolet (Daniel), a sister Ann Hunt Dritt (Jim) of Tallahassee, FL, 8 grandchildren Wesley, William, Wyatt, Catherine, Chad (Haley), Jake, Truman, Daniel and one great granddaughter, Ansley; along with numerous nieces & nephews.
He is predeceased by an infant daughter, Laura Marie Hunt and an adult son, Christopher Charles Hunt.
