Robert Hart Holling, husband of Joan Livingston Holling, died in the evening of Tuesday, July 26, 2022. He was the son of the late Annie Lou Hart and Archibald Baker Holling. He was born in Charleston, SC on September 25, 1935. His Funeral Service will be held Sunday, July 31, 2022 in St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, 405 King Street at 1:00 pm. The family will receive friends Saturday in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Downtown Chapel from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Private burial will be at a later date.
Robert grew up in Charleston and graduated from Rivers High School in 1954 and attended Clemson College. He worked with W.K. Prause Heating and Plumbing, the Charleston Naval Ship Yard and finally as an inspector for Supervisor of Ship Building and Repair for the Department of the Navy.
He was a lifelong member of St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, and over the years served as treasurer and as a member of the Congregation Council. He was a member of Lutheran Men In Mission and headed up the St. Matthew's Men's Work Crew. He was a life member of the Deutscher Bruderliche Bund.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joan Livingston Holling; his son, Robert Hart Holling, Jr. and his wife Robin Honan of Brooklyn, NY; his daughter, Julie Wilson Holling of Gaston, SC; grandsons: Harrison James Holling and Alexander Louis Holling; sister, Ann Marie Holling Griffin (George) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; sister-in-law, Betty Nichols Livingston of Gainesville, GA; nieces: Laura Holling Kaplan (Steve), Robin Griffin Richardson, Jane Livingston Carpenter (Cris), Leigh Livingston Wallace (Sam); nephews: Archibald B. Holling, III (Carla), and Charles E. Griffin (Maureen); and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, brother, Archibald Baker Holling, Jr., sister-in-law, Sue Walker Holling, and brother-in-law, James Wilson Livingston.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Men's Work Crew fund of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church at 405 King St., Charleston, SC 29403.
