Robert Wilson Gomez, 93, of Charleston, South Carolina, widower of Etta Tillman Gomez entered into eternal rest Friday, May 13, 2016. His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, May 17, 2016 in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street at 10:00 a.m. Interment, Live Oak Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday in Stuhr's Downtown Chapel from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Bob was born May 25, 1922 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Osborne Lorraine Gomez and Irene Byrd Gomez. He was a graduate of St. Andrews High School in 1942 and was the first quarterback of their football team, "The Rebels". He retired in 1976 as the maintenance supervisor with the American Tobacco Company and was a member of Charleston Baptist Church. He loved his family, the Atlanta Braves and golf.
He is survived by his two daughters: Joan G. Willard of Charleston, SC and Lynn G. Bailes of Richmond, VA; a brother William Gomez of Lakeland, FL; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Bob was predeceased in death by a son Robert Gene Gomez. His family and friends will fondly remember him as "Honey".
